Even though it's not Christmas yet... I really wanted something to help freshen the whole house since it's gotten cooler and I have all the windows open. I love the addition of the vanilla pod... really different from all the other "scents". I didn't have a fresh orange so I used some dried slices I had from a project I was working on. I halved the recipe since my little pot would only hold 2 cups of water...and used only about 1 TBS of cloves... They tend to be strong and I didn't want them to overwhelm the other luscious scents. I did also add a few drops of orange EO as it simmered... smells just lovely in here now! Just a note... if you choose to add in essential oils like I did, make sure to use a separate pot that you won't be using to cook in later!

I'm allergic to mould and a few days before Christmas DH spray treated some that appeared in our bathroom, so our house was smelling 'Au-de-maniciple-swimming-pool" UGH... chorine, I fixed it all with this recipe in a jiffy and the smell was lovely. It wasn't quite as intense as I would have wanted though, it definiately was wonderful around the pot, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the smell wafted around the whole appartment. I was in such a hurry to improve the smell in the house that I didn't take the photo until it had been simmering for quite a while. Please see my rating system, a lovely 4 stars for getting the swimming pool smells out of our home and replacing it with the smell of Christmas. Thanks !
