  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Grease an 8-by-8 inch baking pan.
  • Combine flour and soda in a medium bowl. Mix well with a wire wisk. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl use an electric mixer to blend the sugar and butter. Add egg and vanilla, and beat at medium speed until light and smooth. Scrape down the side of the bowl, then add the flour mixture and chocolate chips. Blend at low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Transfer batter into the prepared pan, and level top with a rubber spatula. Bake in center of oven for 35-45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean but center is still soft. Cool on rack to room temperature. Cut with sharp knife in 12 bars.

  1. I chose this recipe because it was really simple, with a minimum of ingredients. It was blowing and snowing outside and I didn't want to brave the elements, but DH and I were craving something sweet. He called these "SINFUL" and he LOVED them. They were very dense and really rich...a little piece goes a long way! For me, I would cut back on the butter, perhaps reduce it by 1/2 cup, as they were just a bit too dense and saturated with butter for my liking. In fact, there was so much butter that it was visible in the pan and on my fingers whenever I had a piece. But, maybe that's just ME. Or, maybe I don't understand that this is how a bar cookie is SUPPOSED to be? The flavor was great, though, and we did get our "sweet" fix. Hee-hee! Thanks for posting...
