- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 3 eggs, well beaten
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 cups flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons chocolate
- 1⁄2 teaspoon clove
- 1⁄2 cup boiling water
- 1 apple, chopped fine
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 1⁄2 lb oleo
- 1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup coconut (fresh or frozen)
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 (10 ounce) can crushed pineapple
- 1 orange, sectioned
- 1 cup raisins
directions
- Dissolve chocolate in boiling water and set aside.
- Cream the butter, shortening and sugar and sift the dry ingredients together.
- Add alternately with buttermilk and add chocolate and chopped apple.
- This makes 3 big layers.
- Bake at 375 for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Cook and frost with ambrosia filling.

Cook to soft ball stage:
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 cups milk.
- Then add and beat well:.
- 1/2 lb oleo.
- 1/4 tespoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder.
- After beating add:.
- 1 cup fresh or frozen coconut.
- 1 cup chopped pecans.
- 1 samll can crushed pineapple.
- 1 orange, sectioned.
- 1 cup raisins.
