Woody's Buttermilk Biscuits

"I found this recipe in a newspaper several years ago in a rural Colorado town. I don't remember the name of the paper. My family (kids especially) love weekend mornings when we enjoy these biscuits along with bacon & fruit! Enjoy!"

directions

  • Sift dry ingredients together.
  • Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until it resembles coarse meal.
  • Stir in buttermilk untill all ingredients are wet.
  • Turn onto floured surface, then knead the dough a few times until it's 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut into 2 inch rounds & place on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Lightly brush tops of biscuits with milk.
  • Bake in a preheated oven set to 425 for 12-15 minutes, or until tops are golden.
  • Makes about 10-14 biscuits (depending how thick you like yours!)
  • Note: It's VERY important to sift the dry ingredients. I tried making this without sifting, & learned it's worth the extra step!

I enjoy trying new recipes for me & my two children. My kids, ages 8 & 10, are adventurous eaters, which makes it so nice for me! My heart bursts with pride sometimes when our guests exclaim as they watch my kiddos eat sauted mushrooms, tapinade, tarragon tuna melts, tortilla soup, etc.!
