The Trick to Making Macaroni Salad

I found this on another recipe site. I was amazed at how it really works. The trick is not to mix it up right after you cook the macaroni.


  1. Cook the macaroni.
  2. Rinse it until cool.
  3. Put it in a covered bowl with about 1 cup of water.
  4. Put it in the fridge for a few hours or until the next day.
  5. Stir or shake it several time to "unstick" the pieces and coat them with the water.
  6. When ready to add the other ingredients, drain the liquid and add to the macaroni.

Great tip for any cold pasta-based salad, thanks! I realized last time I made a pasta salad that the dressing soaked right up into the noodles and it tasted too "dry." I was trying to figure out why...This will do the trick, I'm sure! Thanks!

This "trick" definitely works well. I always have to add more mayo before serving macaroni salad since the dressing always soaks in leaving it dry. I was amazed at the difference it made to let the cooked macaroni sit overnight in the fridge with a cup of water. No more dry macaroni salad.. it stayed creamy even the day after serving it. Thanks for sharing's definitely a keeper.
