directions

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sweet potatoes, 1/2 cup butter, honey, egg, salt and whole wheat flour; beat until smooth.
  • Stir in enough all-purpose flour to form a soft dough.
  • Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about an hour.
  • Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half. Shape into loaves and place into two greased 9"x5" loaf pans. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 25 minutes.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown (cover loosely with foil if browns too quickly).
  • Remove from pans to wire racks.
  • Melt remaining butter, brush over warm bread. Cool.

  1. I have made this recipe a number of times and it has always turned out well! It makes 2 loaves, one to keep and one to share. Thanks for sharing this, I could not find the recipe on the TOH website and recently gave the recipe card to another.
