Souperior Meatloaf

"This is usually one of the 2 meat loaves that I make. You can use Lipton onion soup mix or one of the other flavors that they make. Even good with ground turkey. Leftovers make great sandwiches"

  1. This is my favorite meatloaf. I've tried a zillion other recipes thinking that I should make a meatloaf that has a better pedigree than being from the back of a soup mix box. But the truth is this is the taste I like. I've tried others but I always come back to this one. (In fact, one is in the oven now)

  2. Love this recipe. The only change I make is using milk instead of water and 1 soup mix packet per pound of ground beef. My guys devour it. Thanks for posting!

  3. Good, easy, tasty. I added some garlic and Italian seasoning and mine needed a few more minutes cook time even though I only used 1.4lbs ground turkey. Glad to find a recipe that used oats instead of bread.

  4. I've been using this recipe for years. Always a hit. Sometimes I open a can of Au ju gravy to go with or a jar of mushroom gravy. GREAT TIP: You can make this ahead and freeze. I make this, turn it into a meatloaf shaped pan, cover the pan well with several layers of foil and freeze. I never freeze longer than a week or two. Take out 1 or 2 days before planned use, let is thaw in fridge, flip it over onto a baking sheet (add your ketchup or topping) and bake. You can make a large batch and split between 2 meatloaf pans. Hope this helps

  5. Try it with Jack Daniels barbecue sauce in place of ketchup. A good zing with some smoky flavor nicely compliments the onion soup mix.

Tweaks

  1. Seriously the best meatloaf recipe out there. I change the water plus catsup to 5.5 oz can of V8. Catsup on top for presentation. Try it. You'll like it!

  4. When I make this I use Italian Breadcrumbs. I also top my Meatloaf with Ketchup before baking which gives it a sweet glaze

  5. I always use Melinda's Jalapeno ketchup in the recipe. Kicks it up a notch. Melinda's make hotter ones including ghost ketchup. Other than heat, it really doesn't have any flavor.
