- 118.29 ml oat bran
- 59.14 ml raisins, chopped
- 29.58 ml maple syrup (divided)
- 3-5 gravenstein apples or 3-5 other good cooking apples
- 2-3 pears
- 236.59 ml water or 236.59 ml apple juice
- 14.79 ml Butter Buds (refer to note)
- 7.39 ml cinnamon
- 1.23 ml nutmeg
- 0.25 ml clove
- 0.25 ml salt
- 59.14 ml chopped almonds (optional)
directions
- Preheat oven to 350-degrees Fahrenheit.
- Combine oat bran, raisins, and 1 tablespoon maple syrup. Spread oat-bran mixture in the bottom of a deep dish pie pan; set aside.
- Core and slice both apples and pears. To crust, place apples and pears by alternating layers of both fruits.
- In a bowl, combine water or apple juice with the reserved 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Add cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Mix and pour over apple and pear layers. Sprinkle with almonds if using.
- Bake until done, about 1 hour, covered with foil except for the last 15 minutes.
- NOTE: Butter Buds are available in most supermarkets. in this recipe they provide the flavor of butter without the fat.
