Posted by request, this was my grandmother's recipe, handwritten on yellow lined note paper and dated "1972" along w/ a notation: "Easy to make." My grandmother was born in 1890 in Chichester, England, and moved to the US in the early 1900s. She was a very special lady, beloved of all her grandchildren. Recipe is exactly as written by my grandmother with no changes. Prep time and amount are estimates.

  2. Bake 350 for about 12 minutes.

These are heavenly! I can see why your grandmother called them rocks, without any baking powder or other leavening they are a bit "heavy," but yummy nonetheless (where does the Russian come in?). I used chopped almonds for the nuts. Dropped them by the spoonful on parchment paper on the cookie sheet. I think next time I might leave out the cinnamon, add a bit of cocoa and these would taste like a Cadbury's Fruit and Nut bar, or a Chunky cookie. Thanks for the recipe, it's a good one!
