Fresh apples and peaches combine for one heck of a sauce. From the food section in my local paper, the Hartford Courant. Article says this recipe freezes well also.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Peel and core apples and cut into chunks.
  2. Peel and core peaches, and cut into chunks.
  3. Combine apples, peaches, water, cinnamon, and ginger in a medium saucepan, and place pan over medium heat.
  4. Cook just until liquid begins to boil, about 5 minutes.
  5. Reduce heat to low, stir and simmer fruit until soft, adding more water if necessary, for about 10 minutes for a chunky consistency or 15 minutes for a softer consistency.
  6. Stir in sugar to taste-the amount will depend on the variety and sweetness of the apple-and cook briefly to dissolve the sugar.
  7. Mash or blend to desired consistency.
  8. Cool and serve warm or refrigerate. The applesauce can also be packed into freezer safe containers and frozen.
