Milk products (especially fermented milk products like buttermilk or yogurt) contain lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). AHAs are touted as great for skincare plus milk has other benefits for you skin like protein and vitamins. From Natural Beauty at Home by Janice Cox

I have tried something similar to this before and quite love it. I would suggest cutting the recipe in half as I think you would waste alot of buttermilk. Or.... put the rest in your bath and soak while your mask is drying then rinse off in the bath!! Anything to do with milk and the skin, is pure luxury!!!

  1. Combine buttermilk and powder in a container until it is a smooth paste.
  2. Spread over your face and neck (a pastry brush or soft paintbrush reserved for this purpose works well).
  3. Leave on until dry, about 15-20 minutes.
  4. Rinse off with cool water and pat your face dry.
