Heidi's Dinner

"This is the meal that Heidi and her Grandfather used to eat. It's the perfect dinner for a campfire. If you don't want to use a campfire or fireplace to make the meal, you can gently microwave and scrape the cheese too, or use any method you want. The raclette HAS to be in a hunk for this to work. Make sure to use a 2 pronged fork or your raclette will spin and /or fall off. Conversation and deep thoughts accompany this meal well."

directions

 • Get your fire going. You want a nice glow, not shooting flames.
 • Core and slice apples.
 • Slice bread into slabs.
 • Pierce cheese with a long handled fork, such as the one you use for barbequing.
 • Hold cheese over the flames, close enough so it gets soft on the outside, but not so close as to burn it.
 • As the cheese softens on the edges, scrape those edges off with your hunting knife (other kinds of knives will work too) and serve on the bread and apple slices.

I live in Seattle, but have also lived in the DC area, the Mid-west, California, the South, and New England, as well as China and India plus travel a fair bit, so I have experienced a good number of cuisines and like them all. I eat mostly vegetarian and mostly do a lot of scratch cooking. I am known for my creative use of leftovers and whatever is in the fridge. Too bad those recipes can't go easily into Zaar.
