Grilled Angel With Berries and Cinnamon Whipped Wings

It's tough finding a good grilled dessert. This one finds it's way to my grill often after a summer BBQ. It's flexible with many options on the toppings. Experiment. The grilled cake seems to really add something. Please clean your grill before cooking the cake. There is no greater culinary suprise than fishy angel food cake. While I'm laboring at the grill with the cake, my wife takes it easy doing the berries and whipped cream. The times indicated reflect doing it all by yourself. The Cinnamon Whipped Cream recipe comes from Melanie Vassallo (#108469).

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. In a medium bowl, gently combine berries with the brown sugar to coat.
  2. Add orange juice and refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. In a small bowl, with the mixer set at medium speed, beat cream, vanilla and cinnamon until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Cover and refrigerate.
  6. Cut cake into 6 wedges and place on a grill over medium heat.
  7. Grill until golden brown on both sides.
  8. Watch cake closely so it does not burn.
  9. To serve, place a cake wedge on a plate, cover with berries, and top with whipped cream.
  10. NOTE: We use pound cake and peaches in this recipe also. If using pound cake, handle gently on the grill so it does not break up.

This was simply beautiful!! I cheated and just added cinnamon to a container of cool whip also. Made as b-day cake for a friend - Everyone enjoyed! Thanx

Very nice sweet treat. I usd angel food cake I had left over from work. I prepared everything the night before (but I kinda cheated with the whipped cream, I used cool whip mixed with cinamon) then placed it in the fridge to take to work since it was one of the kids birthdays. I spreaded melted butter and sprinkled sugar on each cake before broiling them in the toasted at work. Very elegant and simple dessert that I plan on making a lot more with diffrent fruits. The kids loved this and thought it was better than any other "regular" birthday cake! Served with some ice cream with extra berries on top, YUM! Made for PAC 07!
