This recipe from an old magazine was created to help firefighters to lower their cholesterol. It's quick, simple and tasty - perfect fuel for putting out whatever kind of "fire" you're fighting.
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1⁄2 cup rolled oats
- 1⁄2 cup skim milk or 1⁄2 cup vanilla-flavored soymilk
- 1⁄3 ounce almonds
- 1⁄3 ounce walnuts
- 1⁄3 ounce pistachios
- 1⁄8 cup dried cherries
- 1⁄8 cup dried cranberries
- Mix all ingredients and eat immediately.
- OPTIONAL: Mix several servings of dry ingredients, cover and use within 1-2 weeks. When ready to eat, add honey and milk to amt of serving of dry ingredients then serve.
Yum! I used mixed whole rolled grains and instead of the pistachios, used pecans. Very tasty and healthy breakfast! Made for Adopt a Tag.
Very tasty, super easy; this is my new favorite breakfast! It's wonderful both as posted, and as a general guide (1/2 cup rolled oats, plus 1 ounce any nuts, plus 1/4 cup any dried fruit, plus 1/2 cup milk-of-choice, plus a drizzle of liquid sweetener). Thanks for sharing, Celticevergreen! (Made for the Spain and Portugal February 2012 Honey Tag.)
