Devilish Chocolate Caramel Cake

"my friend made this for me and it was sooo good i had to get the recipe! taste/ texture like brownies would be really good with vanilla ice cream:) if you like you can sub applesauce for part of the butter."

  • 1 (18 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
  • 23 cup evaporated milk, divided
  • 12 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 (12 ounce) package chocolate chips
  • 1 cup walnuts (optional) or 1 cup other nuts (optional)

directions

  • preheat oven to 350 and grease 9x13 in pan.
  • beat cake mix, butter and 1/3 cup of evaporated milk with electric mixer. if desired, mix in nuts or extra chocolate chips. press half the batter into pan and bake for 10-15 minutes until set. Remove from oven.
  • Stir together caramel topping, 1/3 cup of evaporated milk and flour. Pour mixture over cake and top with 1 cup of the choc chips.
  • top with remaining batter and another cup of chocolate chips. Bake 20-30 minutes until crusty. (it will look underdone but will firm as it cools.).
  • cool completely before cutting.
