This sauce is really easy, and can be adapted to use fat free yogurt. I usually make it to go with gyros, and end up dipping everything else in it, too.
- 8 ounces plain yogurt
- 1⁄3 cup seeded chopped cucumber
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped onions
- 1 garlic clove, crushed
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Combine and serve with gyros.
This recipe was a nice accompaniment to gyros. I used fat free Greek yogurt, green onions, and chopped the cucumbers up into small cubes instead of grating them. I also added a generous amount of fresh dill. The results were thick and tasty. The only thing I would have done differently would be to omit the sugar and use a pinch or two of salt. Thanks for posting!
This was SO good. I used the full fat, organic yogurt. And after chopping up the cucumber, I made sure to grate a little extra into the sauce, and followed the rest of the recipe as put...5 stars! Thanks Shaye!
shame on the amateurs who rated this tasty recipe poorly...This was my 1st attempt @ a cucumber yogurt sauce & I was very pleased with the results! YES I made sure to squeeze out the excess moisture from the chopped cukes, too & used a good quality yogurt (not one of those cheap soupy types) Next time I make it, it'll be served with lamb kabobs...YUM
