  • Combine butter, molasses, brown sugar, and buttermilk in a medium saucepan over low heat. Heat until butter is melted and remove from heat. When cool, beat in egg.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, spices and salt; fold into moist ingredients.
  • Turn into a greased and floured 9-inch cake pan and bake in the middle of a preheated 350 F oven for 30 minutes or until a tester comes out clean.
  • Cool before serving.
