Questions & Replies

  1. Hey here's my question: First things first: HELP!! :-) I not a fan AT ALL of dill pickles or green olives. However, I LOVE anchovies and BLACK OLIVES, who knew right? Could a combo of those two work in this recipe? Or singularly roll with the anchovies and/or black olives? Thanks Y'all!

  1. Ambervin: YOU are a Life Saver!!!! I live in a very, very rural part of Michigan; our NEAREST tiny grocery store is 20 miles away, one way. Our larger grocery store is located 40 miles away, one way! So, when our local store was SOLD OUT of capers (who's sold out on capers????), I was hitting a crisis for a recipe that I was making that night, for company! I knew that the capers would only be a part of the recipe, but, an important one for taste and texture. I did a *bing* search, found your Caper Substitution ideas and "Voila!", I was able to make my meal and stop freaking out! I used the Dill Pickle suggestion, since I despise olives in all form, and it was perfect! Unlike others, we adore capers, so now I need to be sure that I buy extra bottles when they come back in stock. Thanks for your recipe and for saving the day! <3

  2. Thank you so much

  3. I think the olives are a bit closer in flavor to capers than the pickles are. Not exactly the same taste, of course, but a good way to add the feel and brininess of capers when you don't have any around. Thanks for posting!

  4. Thank you so much for posting this....I usually skip recipes with capers because I know I wouldn't use them up before they expired. I am so excited to know I can use these substitutions, especially the green olives...love them! Thanks again!

As I am in South Florida, I have many edible fruits and perennial veggies in my yard. So, I like to cook with them.
