Brown Butter Creamy Apple Pie

- 59.14 ml butter or 59.14 ml margarine
- 118.29 ml granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 29.58 ml all-purpose flour
- 4.92 ml vanilla
- 1182.95 ml sliced peeled granny smith apples (5 medium)

- 1 pillsbury pet-ritz frozen deep dish pie shell

Streusel
- 118.29 ml all-purpose flour
- 59.14 ml granulated sugar
- 59.14 ml packed brown sugar
- 3.69 ml ground cinnamon
- 59.14 ml firm butter

Topping
- 118.29 ml whipping cream
- 14.79 ml powdered sugar
- 1.23 ml ground cinnamon
- 2.46 ml vanilla
directions
- Heat oven to 400°F Place cookie sheet in oven to heat. In 1-quart saucepan, cook 1/4 cup butter over medium heat, stirring constantly, until melted and lightly browned. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.
- In large bowl, beat 1/2 cup granulated sugar and the egg with wire whisk until light and fluffy. Beat in 2 tablespoons flour and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in cooled butter. Gently stir in apples. Pour into crust-lined pan.
- In medium bowl, stir together all streusel ingredients except butter. With pastry blender or fork, cut in 1/4 cup butter until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apples. Place pie on cookie sheet in oven.
- Bake 20 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F and cover edge of crust with strips of foil to prevent excessive browning. Bake 40 to 50 minutes longer or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cool 2 hours.
- In small bowl, beat whipping cream until soft peaks form. Add remaining topping ingredients; beat until stiff peaks form. Pipe or spoon onto pie.

This is a very good apple pie. I used a homemade pie crust but everything else was the same. It baked perfectly in about 50 or so minutes for me. I did bake mine at 375 degrees because I find that baking at 400 degrees is just too much for my oven - the crust and the streusel topping would get too brown. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks this came out perfect, tasty and healthy!<br/>I used a homemade whole meal four pie crust, apples from the garden and for the streusel I used whole meal flour as well. For the topping I simply dotted some whipping cream and little cinnamon.<br/>The cinnamon quantity was enough for me as I'm using strong cinnamon that in bought in Greece which much better than the cinnamon in usual shops.<br/><br/>I used a 32 cm round pie mold. As wirh this size the pie was thinner, I baked it totally only 55 minutes. Thanks for posting this recipe. Done for PRMR!
