Barbecued Hot Dogs OAMC

"This is the best way I've ever eaten hot dogs. My mom made it for my family growing up and I still love it. Try it with mashed potatoes so the sauce can be used as gravy. The longer you simmer it, the better it tastes!"

directions

 • Wash and dry hot dogs. Cut in half lengthwise.
 • Brown hot dogs both sides in skillet with oil.
 • Mix remaining ingredients in a bowl and pour over hot dogs in skillet.
 • Simmer for ½ to 1 hour. Add more water if necessary.
 • If you want to freeze this, I find it's best to do it before the simmering step, right after you've added everything together. Just thaw and simmer!

 1. Good recipe. My favorite part was the cutting them in half and browning them first. MMM

 2. I had a package of hot dogs to use up and I wanted to teach my guys a lesson in picking dinners (they won't do it very often) so I made this. My plan backfired! It did not photograph well so they were both afraid to come home for dinner, but they absolutely LOVED it and I am left picking dinner almost every night. Thanks for sharing (I think)~

 3. I just wanted to say that my husband and I love these. We eat way too many of them!!!

 4. This was a really differant way to have hotdogs and both DH and I enjoyed it and as neither me or DH are big hot dog fans that's saying something. I loved browning them first and the sauce was a good blend of sweet and tangy just what a bar b q sauce needs to be. So easy to fix up when needing something quick. We served with rice and flat bread and really enjoyed this fast, tasty and differant recipe. Wondering how it would taste with polish sausages or the like. Made for "Help a Naked Recipe"

 5. This was a nice way to fix hot dogs. The sauce kept the hot dogs very juicy while cooking. I simmered the dogs for about 45 minutes, and the sauce was still very runny, so I drained the sauce off to serve the dogs and onions in a bun.

Tweaks

 1. I made these today and they were out of this world. The only thing I changed was I had a 16 ounce package of hot dogs and I used onion powder instead of onions. Next time I make ( very soon!!!) I will make a lot more sauce it was awesome!!! Can't imagine a better hotdog.

I'm a grad student (in chemistry, which is really just glorified cooking) who loves cooking anything and everything. I've recently been discovering a love of baking. My husband mostly enjoys my experimenting, except when it involves spiciness!

I typically follow recipes and therefore don't have very many of my own. I'm trying to get more daring, though. Hopefully I'll have many excellent recipes to donate here, eventually.
