Bakery-Like Frosting

"Saw this in a recipe book and am posting for safekeeping. I thought it looked interesting and since I do cake decorating I'm always looking at frosting recipes."

  • Whip the shortening, 4 cups sugar, vanilla, salt and cornstarch together until fluffy. Add the egg whites and remaining sugar alternately and whip till light and fluffy.
  • You may use pasteurized whites if you like. I find that they turn white icing a funny color, gives the frosting a yellow cast. That certainly doesn't work with a wedding cake!
  • This recipe can be easily halved.
