ingredients
- 16 ounces dried split peas, rinsed, one package
- 1 2 meaty ham hocks (optional) or 2 cups diced ham (optional)
- 3 carrots, diced
- 2 stalks celery, plus leaves diced
- 1 -2 garlic clove, minced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1⁄4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
- 1 tablespoon Lawry's Seasoned Salt
- 1⁄2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
- 1 1⁄2 quarts hot water
directions
- Layer ingredients in a slow cooker.
- Pour in hot water DO NOT STIR.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours until peas are very soft and ham falls off bone.
- Remove bones and bay leaf.
- Serve garnished with croutons.
- Freezes well.
