This recipe calls for one of the three seasoning: chives, parsley or poultry seasoning.

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 14 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives (The sage in the seasoning will makes the dumplings dark. Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients.
  2. Add one of the seasonings.
  3. Add milk to make a stiff dough.
  4. When stew is close to being done, drop by small teaspoonsful into bubbling stew.
  5. Simmer 10 minutes uncovered.
  6. Simmer 10 minutes covered.
