ingredients
- 1⁄4 cup margarine
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 banana, mashed
- 1⁄4 cup milk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon allspice
- 1⁄3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Frosting
- 2 tablespoons margarine or 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup icing sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 2 -4 teaspoons water
directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Grease and flour a 13"X9" pan.
- Cream together margarine and sugar.
- Beat in the egg.
- Stir in banana.
- Stir in the milk.
- Combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, allspice, and nuts (if using).
- Stir into creamed mixture.
- Spread in the pan.
- Bake 20-25 minutes at 350F.
- until golden brown.
- Frosting: Melt margarine.
- Stir in icing sugar and lemon juice.
- Stir in water, 1 tsp.
- at a time, to get a good spreading consistency.
- Spread over warm bars.
- Cool completely.
- Cut into bars.

I actually made these bars for my dog's 13th birthday (a good excuse for a family get-together to eat!). Although these are thin like bars, they taste like cake to me - next time I make them, I'll probably put them in a 9" square pan. A couple of people thought the bars were carrot not banana - I guess because of the spices. I didn't get around to doing the icing until the bars were cooled & they turned out great!
