- 1 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly grease a 9 or 10 inch tube pan. Heat the milk and butter together in a saucepan until the butter is melted and the mixture is lukewarm. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until foamy. Add the sugar gradually, as you beat, and beat until light and fluffy. Add the milk-butter mixture. Add the flour and beat well, and then beat in the vanilla and salt. Last of all, beat in the baking powder.
- Pour and scrape the batter into the pan. Bake 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool on rack.
