Lazy Fruitcake

ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 4 cups sifted flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 cup buttermilk
- 8 ounces chopped dates
- 1 lb candy orange slices, cut into small pieces
- 4 ounces flaked coconut
- 2 cups pecans

Glaze
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 1⁄4 cup lemon juice
- 1⁄4 cup orange juice
- 1⁄2 cup powdered sugar
directions
- Cut orange slices into small pieces. (It's easy if you put them in the freezer for an hour before hand.).
- Combine candy,dates, nuts and coconut and dredge with 1/4 cup of the 4 cups of flour.
- Set aside.
- Sift the rest of the flour with soda and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time.
- Add vanilla and mix well.
- Add flour mixture alternatley with buttermilk.
- Fold in date and candy mixture.
- Pour into 2 well greased loaf pans.
- Bake at 300 degrees for 2 hours.
- Pour glaze over hot cakes.
- Freezes like a charm!
