  2. Thanks for sharing this recipe...great way to teach kids homemaking i buy the whipping cream by the half gallon then make it the homemade butter crock srpead which makes a lot & last all year long by freezing it until i need it... plus what i pay for the ingredients i pay about ten dollars for..saves me alot of money in the long run & i know i won't run out of butter...

  3. I also use this all the time. This is all I use. I would like to add that the colder the whipping cream the less amount of shaking you do. You can also add a couple of marbles to this. To add in aggitaion. Make sure you shake slow to start, if you use the later, also the later should not be used if small children are going to be helping you.

  4. We did this in a K-1 class I volunteered in for a Thanksgiving dinner the kids had at the school in 2001. They had a blast shaking the jar to make butter. We sang a song while the jar was being shook and then passed to the next person. I don't remember the words to the song but it was fun!!! I even got to take a couple of turns shaking the jar. The kids were amazed to see that they made butter!! The butter was served at their dinner. They were dressed as either Pilgrims or Indians...their choice. Thanks for the fond memories. I will suggest this recipe for this year too!!

  5. this recipe was used with GREAT success for a Girl Scout Brownie meeting. The girls had fun taking turns shaking and eating their results on toast afterward.
