Gamblin' Man Barbecue Sauce

"The closest thing I've ever come to replicating the sweet and unique flavor of Kenny Rogers' Roasters sauce. A nice compliment to BBQ or a special entree that needs a little sweet goodness. Know when to hold 'em... and fold 'em. Hold on to this one."

• Yields: 2 cups
• Serves: 32

ingredients

• 1 cup applesauce (nearly pureed)
• 1⁄2 cup ketchup (Hunts)
• 1 1⁄4 cups light brown sugar (packed)
• 6 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1⁄2 teaspoon paprika
• 1⁄2 teaspoon garlic salt
• 1⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1⁄2 teaspoon black pepper

directions

1. Combine wet ingredients into sauce pan and simmer.
2. Slowly add brown sugar (in thirds of overall quantity) and stir until fully dissolved.
3. Add spices.
4. Reduce heat to low and cook an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
5. Store refrigerated for 30 days or freeze.
