  • Dissolve the yeast in the warm water in th measuring cup. Let it sit 15 minutes.
  • Mix flour, sugar, and salt in large mixing bowl. Add yeast water and olive oil. Mix with spoon until you have to go in with hands.
  • Form into ball and knead for about 5 minuts on lightly floured surface. Dough will feel smooth when ready.
  • Place into a large bowl lightly oiled with olive oil, cover and store in warm place for about an hour or so. Dough should almost double in size.
  • Make a bath for the pretzels by combining the water and baking soda and mix well.
  • Preheat oven to 425F.
  • Remove dough and cut into 8 pieces.
  • roll each portion onto non-floured surface. Roll it out to 3 feet or so. Make into the shape of a pretzel by bring each end looped over each other and pinch together at the bottom of the pretzel.
  • Grab the pinched ends and dip into bath and put onto paper towel and blot excessive water.
  • Sit onto a baking dish lined with parchment paper. Salt with pretzel salt if needed.
  • Bake 5 minutes in the oven then turn the pan around and bake another 5 minutes. Remove when lightly golden brown.
  • Remove from pan and place on cooling rack. Brush with butter and serve immediately.
