    ounces squares semisweet baking chocolate (or bittersweet)
  • 4
    ounces squares unsweetened baking chocolate
  • 6
    tablespoons butter or 6 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 14
    cups sugar
  • 2
    teaspoons vanilla
  • 1
    cup flour
  • 1
    teaspoon baking powder
  • 14
    teaspoon salt
  • 2
    cups chopped toasted walnuts (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  • Heat oven to 325.
  • Put chocolate squares and butter in a large microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, until chocolate is almost melted, stirring half way through heating time.
  • Stir until chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Stir sugar into chocolate until blended.
  • Mix in eggs and vanilla.
  • In small bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Stir flour mixture into chocolate mixture.
  • Stir in nuts.
  • Drop by rounded tablespoons, 1 1/2 inches apart, on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake 12 minutes or until set. DO NOT OVERBAKE.
  • Cool 5 minutes; remove from baking sheet to wire racks.
  • Cool completely.
  • Store airtight.
