  • Fry onions and meat in melted shortening, adding 1 tsp pepper, until brown.
  • Add garlic.
  • Add string beans, tomato paste, and cover with water to 1 inch over level of beans.
  • Stew for 2 hours.
  • Serve over rice.
  • Variation: different green vegetables can be used instead. Dad usually subbed peas.
