Creamy Apple Squares

"I got this recipe from my mil over 25 years ago and have been making this favorite ever since. I'm not sure where she got this, probably off of a cake mix box since it uses a cake mix."

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Combine cake mix and butter until crumbly.
  • Reserve 2/3 cup for topping.
  • Add brown sugar and cinnamon to the reserved topping mixture, mixing well. Set aside.
  • Press remaining mixture onto bottom of ungreased 9x13 pan.
  • Arrange apple slices over crust.
  • Blend sour cream and egg.
  • Spread evenly over apples.
  • Sprinkle the reserved topping mix over all.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Serve warm or cold.
  • Refrigerate lefters.

  1. These are very rich and super-delicious. However they did stick to the bottom of the pan. Next time will use a little non-stick spray just to be sure. Thanks for posting!
     
  2. I thought this was very good! I didn't know what kind of apple to use, so I used red ones. You could really taste the flavor in it. I think I will use green apples next time and see if it changes it. This is a great dish for serious apple lovers! Hubby and I needed a scoop of ice cream on top! Thanks for a great fall comfort dish!

I grew up and still live in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. My husband and I are empty nesters I work full time in computer consulting and so don't have much time for cooking, but I do enjoy it and like scanning through the recipes here for new ones to try.
