  • Mix the shortening with the butter in your mixer. Don't mix it too well, you don't want a perfectly consistent texture.
  • Add the 2 sugars and mix.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla and mix.
  • Add 2 cups of the flour, retaining the other cup to mix the salt and baking soda.
  • Add the last cup of flour, mix well.
  • Add the chocolate chips, mix well.
  • Drop by heaping tablespoon onto a cookie sheet.
  • Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 7.5 to 8.5 minutes. They are done when the tops have light brown tips on the peaks.
  • Remove from the oven and let them sit on the baking sheet for five minutes, remove and place on wax paper that is sitting on your counter, or a cooling rack.
