Buttermilk Fruit Sherbet - Basic Recipe and Variations

  • Basic Recipe

  • 1 12 cups fruit puree
  • flavor enhancer, of choice
  • 14 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups buttermilk (low fat ok)

directions

  • Combine all ingredients except buttermilk.
  • Chill for several hours.
  • Beat again until smooth.
  • Add buttermilk and beat again.
  • Stir freeze in an ice cream maker according to your manufacturer's directions.
  • Variations:.
  • Plum: one of my favorites! puree the fruit with the skins on. this adds flavor and color. add one of the following: 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 2 tablespoons dark rum.
  • Peach: peel before pureeing. add one of the following: 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.
  • Blueberry: add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • you get the idea. be creative! make up your own combos!
