Buttermilk Fruit Sherbet - Basic Recipe and Variations

Basic Recipe
- 1 1⁄2 cups fruit puree
- flavor enhancer, of choice
- 1⁄4 cup lemon juice
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups buttermilk (low fat ok)
directions
- Combine all ingredients except buttermilk.
- Chill for several hours.
- Beat again until smooth.
- Add buttermilk and beat again.
- Stir freeze in an ice cream maker according to your manufacturer's directions.
- Variations:.
- Plum: one of my favorites! puree the fruit with the skins on. this adds flavor and color. add one of the following: 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 2 tablespoons dark rum.
- Peach: peel before pureeing. add one of the following: 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.
- Blueberry: add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
- you get the idea. be creative! make up your own combos!
