I don't know who formulated this particular recipe, but it is not what I'd call canine healthy. Way, way too much fat, starch and salt. NO DOG should be eating 1100+ calories per day. I'm also very concerned about an adult vitamin tablet for a 40 lb dog. There are so many different vitamins on the market, each with completely different vitamin/mineral content, I do not know how anyone could make such a generic statement, never mind the newspaper giving credence to this. The vet should be working with the dog to determine if a daily vitamin supplement is needed and if it is, the vet will advise what vitamins/minerals and their values should be. This is a horrible recipe; where's the vegetables? If one is going to use rice, it should be a complex carb (long-grain rice) not the vitamin-deficient instant variety. Dogs do require some fat in their diet but it should be in the form of a sunflower, safflower oil or perhaps a small amount of cod liver oil. Certainly not beef or chicken fat!
