Hare Krishna Almond Salad Dressing

"This is an approximate duplicate of the salad dressing which is served at Gainesville community Hare Krishna House as well as the famous Krishna Lunch at The University of Florida. It is vegan, but in appearance similar to that of ranch dressing. This should only be made fresh."

directions

  • Blend all ingredients with half of the water in a blender.
  • When almonds are pureed, add remaining water a little bit at a time until desired thickness. Dressing should appear thin as it will thicken upon sitting for more than a half hour.

Questions & Replies

  1. Thank you, I’ve been grieving my move from Gainesville and woke up missing Krishna lunch. Do you know how they make the Mac recipe? Thanks for a piece of home

  1. This is the right recipe! The photo makes the dressing appear more watery than it actually is in person. When made following the recipe, it tastes and looks like the UF Krishna Lunch dressing. If in Gainesville, Ward's carries Hing in the spice bulk aisle.

  2. AMAZING recipe! It came out just like the actual dressing, I followed it to a T (except water--that should be adjusted based on what your dressing is like). I also soaked the almonds for a couple of hours before blending just so it would come out a bit smoother. I think I tried this recipe years ago and didn't do it right, and had used soy sauce. This time I followed instructions exactly as written and nailed it. The next day, the dressing has thickened up considerably, so keep that in mind. Flavor is on point!

  3. I've been going to the FSU Krishna Lunch for over two years now, and wanted to start duplicating some of their recipes from home. I've tried versions of this dressing recipe numerous times, but as previously mentioned by SsnHng, the amount of Braggs was doubled (sometimes even more than doubled), and that totally ruined the recipe. This is the real recipe, and it is absolutely spectacular. I also took SsnHng's suggestion of reducing the oil, and the taste was not compromised a single bit. I will now proceed to eat salad for every meal, for the rest of my life. Enjoy!

  4. Super easy and pretty much identical to the almond dressing served at Good Karma Cafe at USC. I sometimes reduce the oil by 25-30% to try and lighten up this calorie bomb, which can easily be replaced by water to get the right consistency. No harm in taste. There is another recipe floating around the net that's pretty similar, except that the liquid amino/soy amount is for some reason doubled - they were failures. Dallas88 has the correct recipe!

  5. Thanks for sharing this great recipe! I also love the Krishna lunches at UF and wanted to learn how to make these before I leave Gainesville. The recipe makes dressing that is exactly the same as the one served by the hare krisnas on campus. I would give this recipe even more stars if it was possible! :)

Tweaks

  1. Omg this dressing is the best I’ve ever had. Very similar to the Almond Dressing served at my local Hare Krishna vegetarian buffet. I sometimes soak the Almonds for 24-48 hours to sprout them and use slightly less water. I also add 1-2 Cloves Garlic, 2 Teaspoons Maple Syrup and 1 TSP Garlic Powder and 1 TSP Onion Powder instead of Hing. Sooo good, I’ve never bought dressings from the store since finding this recipe. Thank you!
