directions

 • Mix all ingredients well.
 • Store in an airtight container or in freezer.
 • You can also roast and grind these spices yourself first before mixing.
 • Here in Cairo it is a VERY popular spice so we are able to buy freshley gorund all the time from spice souk.
 • *** A great idea would be to make, wrap in a beautiful bottle or glass, decorate and give as a gift. Not everyone is aware of this spice, its great in many dishes, and gives a nice exotic flavor***.

 1. I use a little ground allspice to replace the nutmeg as it is an intoxicant and all intoxicants are haram. I also dry roast the rest of the spices whole in a pan and then grind them for a better flavour.

 2. I keep a small jar of this on hand all the time. When I have leftover rice, I saute it in butter and this mixture, throw in a handful of frozen peas near the end, and LUNCH!

 3. I am American living in Jordan. I am making Oozy for dinner and just realized I was out of the seven-spice mix (gasp! how could I allow such a thing to happen!) I didn't have time to run up to the store and came across your recipe for the mix. Thank you sooooooo much! You saved dinner tonight :)

I'm an American living in Cairo, have lots of free time and love to cook! My friend told me I know the science of food, that I am a food scientist; I was like what??? She said that I put together ingredients that she would never think of, that I know what goes with what, what tastes and works... honestly I really don't know about that, but I do love cooking. I like experimenting and making delicious, but simple meals. I love fresh ingredients, spices and enjoy preparing food for friends. I am so pleased when I see the enjoyment they get from my food. Please be patient with my recipe posts, some may seem lengthy, but I like to explain well so you will get it the first time. I appreciate this from others, so I hope you will too. Also, I never measure anything, so I will try my best to give measurements that will work for you. Anyway, enjoy my recipes on food.com!
