Nightcap Coffee Mix

"Got this recipe several years ago from Recipesource.com. I made up a big batch for Christmas one year to give away to friends and co-workers. I placed in decorative 8oz glass jars and tied with red and green ribbon. I also made chocolate covered spoons, wrapped in red or green plastic wrap and tied a couple to each jar. This is a very tasty hot drink and the cardamom gives it an extra special taste (cardamom is rather pricy but well worth it). Of course, I kept some for myself. You can double, triple, etc the recipe if desired."

  1. I just made a cup of coffee with this mix, but I'm sorry I have to say... I did not care for it, and I thought the coffee had an odd taste to it. After reading the 2 reviews, I thought I would enjoy this mix, especially after I already spent $10.00 on a (1.75 ounce) bottle of the cardamon spice needed for this recipe. Needless to say, I was rather disapointed. Anita, I'm sorry I wasn't able to give this recipe a good review, but I'm glad to see others enjoyed it. One more thing... before I made this mix, I had looked up this recipe at recipesource, and it states to add 1 tablespoon of the coffee mix to the (8-oz.) of hot water. I think the 1 teaspoon of coffee mix posted, is a type error. I also thought the tablespoon was not enough, so I added 2 tablesp., and I thought that was the right amount to add to the hot water.

  2. I agree with Charishma that 1 tsp of this mix is not enough; the result is weak, watery drink. You really need to add about 4-5 tsp to give a satisfying drink. And the smell is heavenly! Thanks for sharing.

  3. This is really "TO DIE FOR"! I made this as an after-dinner drink tonight using Hills Bros. Cappuccino Double Mocha as my coffee creamer, and the remaining ingredients. I used 5 heaped teaspoons of this mix in 1 cup(8oz.) of real hot boiling water. I found 1 tsp.(heaped) to be really less- the drink didn't taste good to me with just 1 tsp. of the mix, so, I went on adding a tsp., and kept checking for the taste. When I had added in the 5th tsp. and took a sip, mmmmmmmmm! HEAVEN! The smell of this beverage filled up the entire kitchen! It is really good! Another suggestion I have is to pour the beverage, once ready to drink, over a sieve, into another cup in order to remove the outer covers of the green cardamoms that were ground in the mixer(mixie)/grinder/blender before being added to this beverage. This made a BIG difference atleast to me. Really a keeper and I have put it in my notebook. Thank YOU so much for posting. I have also made another batch and kept it ready for my Christmas gift-giving for tomorrow! Thanks!
