Maytag Neptune Washer Front Loader Cleaning Solution

"I was told by my local Maytag dealer that this cleaning solution helps alleviate the mold buildup behind the tub of these machines. They said to specifically use Sunlight dishwasher detergent (granular). Caution: I would recommend NOT to wash a dark clothing load immediately after running this cleaning cycle just in case there's still bleach residue. Bleach plus dark clothes = BIG OOPS! Note: I've had a hard time finding the Sunlight granular but did find the Sunlight liquid (for dishwashers of course) and it seems to work fine. Smells lemony fresh : )"

  1. Oh my - this makes me soooo happy that after 5 1/2 miserable years my Neptune refused to spin out clothes & DH could not fix it! I vetoed a service call & instead went & bought Bosch Nexxt 500 series as a replacement. I use 1 Tablespoon detergent per load & have clothes that are way cleaner than the funky Neptune ever did! This mixture probably should not be extrapolated to other frontloaders as it could cause "suds lock" or frothing into areas that don't ordinarily get exposed to detergent or bleach. Good luck with your Neptune - that experience did not burn me out for frontloaders - just Maytag (forever)

  2. Yay! I don't have a Neptune, but used it on my front loader. My washing machine is clean and smells wonderful. So glad I found this. I used the granular Cascade I had on hand and ran a rinse of vinegar afterward. Thanks so much for sharing! I will definitely use this again.

  3. I have had a Neptune for I believe 7 years. My husband had it before me. He didn't believe me that you use half the amount of detergent. He thought more is better. He wanted to throw the machine out 6 years ago. I had a challenge many years back. I called the maytag man and I had him leave my husband a note....man to man. The maytag man told me about bleach and cascade. So that is what I used. I think either does well. I always do a follow up with vinegar to clear out the bleach. I don't want any bleach on my clothes. Thanks for this posting though. I'm sure you have helped more than have replied!

  4. Added bonus: Run your hubby's dingy white socks through at the same time. They come out looking brand new! I like to use Cascade powdered dishwasher detergent for this.

  5. Wow! I love this recipe!! My washer was smelling so nasty I wasn't enjoying doing laundry anymore...yes,I do enjoy doing laundry. I ran this through once with the cleaners in it and then one more time with nothing to rinse out anything that was left behind. Perfect and no more stink!! Thanks so much for posting! :)
