5 Ingredient Dump Cake

"This is another dump cake variation (see my recipes for a chocolate 3 ingredient one), this one with pineapples, cherries, yellow cake mix and nuts. The best thing about these cakes is that there are no bowls to wash, no mixing and no grief. Just dump it all in the pan and bake!"

 1. Dump cake is Divine. Easy to assemble and bake. Great recipe for a beginner baker. I substituted chopped walnuts for pecans and it was great. I could not find my 13x9 baking pan (due to remodel) so I used two 9" cake pans and divided ingredients evenly. Thank you for sharing this recipe. I will add Dump Cake to our Thanksgiving dessert menu. My hubby loves it too.

 2. I agree that one stick of butter is plenty here. This is a great cobbler type cake! Rich and delicious! I used 1 pint of zucchini pineapple for the can of crushed pineapple, and it worked very well. Since I usually add some amaretto to my homemade cherry pie filling, and I had to use canned this time, I added 2 TB amaretto to the melted butter for a little 'kick'. It was delicious. I used about 1/4 c extra pecans on top because I wanted to use them up. I had tasted this type of cake before, but never with the pecans on top. Don't skip the nuts! They toast up beautifully on top, with the melted butter poured over them. AMAZING flavor! Blending a little cinnamon in with the cake mix or even with the melted butter would also add a delicious layer of flavor. Super with ice cream, or cool whip that's still frozen.

 3. My husband and I loved this cake. It was more like a cobbler once baked. And my husband doesn't even like cherry pie filling. But he ate this up with some ice cream. Fabulous !

 4. This has been a family favorite for years! I use one cube of butter (cut into chunks), and drop onto the dry cake mixture before baking. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and wowser!!

 5. This is an awesome recipe that I have been making for 9 years. It is so fast & tastes so good. We love it with whipped topping while it is warm.

 3. I make this recipe all the time, only I use 2 sticks of margarine, which I think works better than butter and it is wonderful. I also, use walnuts instead of pecans and top it with Whipped Cream. YUMMY

I live in Pa (outside of Philadelphia) and cooking, baking, cross-stitching and reading are my hobbies.

I collect cookbooks and cookie stamps/cutters and have a pretty big collection of both. I am also a fan of all things Amish, so I have quite a collection of things picked up in Reading, Lancaster and surrounding areas here in Pennsylvania.

I have 4 kids, who are the loves of my life and cooking for them and my husband keeps me on my toes! ;)

We bought an ice cream parlor in March 04 and it's been quite an experience!

Note: I love getting feedback on my recipes; all I ask is that you actually *make* them before reviewing them.

Also, if you make changes or substitutions, I'd love to see your suggestions and/or comments, but I'd appreciate no rating at all if it's not made as posted. Too many recipe reviews state margarine subbed for butter (if I list butter, it's REAL butter), different spices, low-fat ingredients, whole wheat flour instead of white, etc. The recipes will not work/taste as intended, so it's really not fair to rate them as such.

I'd also really appreciate it if you refrain from rating a recipe if you overcook or overbake it or it you don't refrigerate or store as listed.

I, of course, will adhere to the above when rating recipes, too!

Thanks and have a great day!

My Rating System:

***** A delicious recipe that was thoroughly enjoyed. It has excellent, detailed directions and is perfect as is. If a dish is especially easy, and I'm on the fence, I will give it 5* for ease even if it's very good instead of great. Something I will definitely make again.

**** Excellent recipe but confusing directions that I will make again in my own less confusing way OR Very good recipe that I'll probably make again if I find the time!

*** Good/OK recipe but probably not something I would make again OR Very Good recipe that doesn't have clear, detailed directions.

** Recipe was edible but not really enjoyed and will not be made again. Work involved not a good trade-off for the end result.

* Not edible and probably an error in the recipe. I feel that I pick recipes with ingredients our family likes, so in my opinion, there's an error somewhere. If there's a chance I made the error, I won't rate the recipe. ;)
