"I love making these rolls for church dinners. I make the dough up ahead of time, then the day of need - shape into desired rolls and let rise. Bake and enjoy."

directions

  • Dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Scald milk, remove from stove top or microwave and add lard and sugar. Stir to melt and dissolve until cooled to 105-115 degrees F.
  • In large bow combine 2-1/2 cups flour, salt. Stir in egg. Add yeast and milk mixture. Mix until well blended (can use an electric mixer). Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  • Turn out on floured board and knead for 10 minutes.
  • Place in well greased bowl and cover tightly. Refrigerate 8 hours or up to 3 days before shaping. When ready to use, shape dough into 1-1/2-inch balls. Place in well grease pans and cover with light cloth 1 hour or until double in bulk.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Bake for 20 minutes or until done. Brush with softened butter immediately from oven.
