Sugar Sandwiches

"Sugar and margarine sladdered between two slices of bread. My grandfather who I called "Gump" when I was a little kid used to make me these sandwiches as a snack for me. Come to find out many years later my mom told me my "Gump" made these for her to when she was a kid. I still eat these once in a while as comfort food as I think they are good. Yum! You can use softened butter in place of the margarine but this is what my gram had on hand most often."

• Serves: 2

ingredients

• 2 teaspoons margarine (or more to taste, I like more)
• 2 slices white bread
• 2 teaspoons sugar (or more to taste, I like more)

directions

1. Spread 1 teaspoon of margarine on 1 slice of white bread.
2. Sprinkle each slice of bread with 1 teaspoon sugar.
3. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

OH MY GOSH.....My Grandmother taught me how to make this when I was really little....Then when my Mother asked where I learned how to make them Grandma Violet denied it! Thanks for bringing back a flood of memories from Grandma's kitchen! P.S. Have you ever tried a mayonnaise sandwich? Same concept, soft white bread with just mayo!

Oh, so this is a universal recipe. My grandmother, who I call Lola, made me these too. I think she made them out of convenience because the ingredients were always on hand and I was told I loved sugar when I was a kid. It's a great comfort food.

My closest aunt ( 2 years older than me) taught me to make this on a warm tortilla with a touch of cinnamon when I was 5! Great memories. I make it for my nieces and nephews now!

I remember these from when I was younger. We used brown sugar. A great treat when you just need a little something sweet .
