Semolina Bread

"From "The Bread Machine Cookbook II" by Donna Rathmell German. This is the only bread my children will let me make. I've only given a 1 1/2 pound loaf recipe because the bread raises quite high."

  • Place the above ingredients into your bread machine pan in order given.
  • Set machine to make a 1 1/2 pound loaf.
  • Take out of machine as soon as it is done.

  1. This was ok .. I had to add 3 extra tbsp of water because the dough was too dry ..
     
  2. I was asked what this bread is best served with. I have found that this bread makes excellent sandwiches of any kind. Everything from peanut butter to meat sandwiches. It is also great to use as a base for garlic toast for spaghtetti meals.
     
  3. I have the book with this recipe and I have been making it for years. I like the texture. Great with pasta. I usually use the dough cycle and bake it in my oven. Spray the oven inside with water for a crispy crust.
     
  4. I made the recipe exactly as stated. I have to admit that I wondered if the dough was going to be too dry and it looked a little that way at first. But I waited another 5 minutes and the dough came together well. No bricks in the bottom of the pan! This bread is a plain bread, nothing fancy. My toddler ate it happily [instant extra star!]. It rose well, has a good texture and is easy to cut.
     
  5. I prepared the dough in the bread machine and baked it in the oven and it made a nice loaf.

I am a married mother of two. Both children are pretty picky, as well as my husband, so I have a hard time finding recipes everyone will enjoy. Also, I have food allergies to the legume family (peanuts and soy being the worst), so I find I have to change recipes sometimes. I have just recently discovered that I really enjoy cooking and am very happy to try most recipes.
