Apple Pie

I found this recipe in 1980 in a very old Farm Journal Best Ever Pie Cookbook. So simple, so delicious. Make this with Cheddar Cheese Pie Pastry for best results. Show more

  1. Peel and slice apples. Toss with lemon juice.
  2. Mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt.
  3. Sprinkle over apples and toss to coat evenly.
  4. Place apples in prepared 9-inch unbaked crust. Dot with butter and place top crust on the pie. Crimp edges to seal.
  5. Cut 3 slits in the top crust for steam vents.
  6. Sprinkle top crust with remaining 1 teaspoon sugar.
  7. Bake in 400°F oven for 45-50 minutes.
  8. If edges get too brown, cover edges loosely with aluminum foil.
