My name is the short version of what I tell my kids about things I make or things I cook, "It's not just home made -- it's Joe Made." I'm a 60+ year old guy who enjoys cooking, but tends to view recipes as guidelines -- or maybe just suggestions. That frequently lands me in trouble with my loving spouse, when she really likes some new dish I've concocted (I mean created) but is then dismayed to hear that, once gain, I was making it up as I went along, and skipped the part about writing down how I did it. The next time, it may or may not come out the same. The Joy of Cooking is my most used cookbook, followed by Mastering the Art of French Cooking.
