I am a part time working Mum of kids age 10 and 7. The big one (my son)is a VERY picky eater and would have starved by now if there were no such thing as baked beans (Heinz only please!!)My husband hates most veg so keeping those two happy is hard. My daughter will TRY anything and LOVES sprouts!! I enjoy cooking very much when I don't have to...I am going to try and do some of this Once A Month Cooking so that when I'm tired I don't have to resort to giving the kids toast and a banana. My idol is Nigella Lawson..I want to swan round my kitchen wearing a red satin dresing gown like she did on her Christmas show. Sadly blue fleece with a sleeve that's been dunked in porridge doesn't look quite the same..... I adore reading about cooking, my favourite authors being Nigella of course and also Nigel Slater. I get distracted easily ..often by reading websites such as this one and burn quite a bit...my husband has taken to singing the theme tune to "Butterflies" when I serve dinner (probably only UK people will get this!) My pet peeve is people telling me my son would eat what he was given if there was no alternative...yes he might if I served it for breakfast lunch and dinner for 5 days in a row but is that what happy eating is about? I want him to WANT to eat it and ENJOY it. Suggestions on getting picky eaters to try stuff are always welcome from those who have been in the same position!!
