Ready In:

  • Cut tofu into bite sized pieces and saute in 2 tablespoons oil until browned.
  • Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, saute garlic and green onions in remaining 1 tablespoon oil until garlic is golden.
  • Add water, orange juice, lemon juice, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, and pepper flakes. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium.
  • In a small cup or dish, mix together cornstarch and water until thoroughly blended. Pour cornstarch mixture into sauce, stirring constantly.
  • Cook, stirring, over medium heat until sauce thickens to your liking. Remove from heat and combine with tofu until completely coated. Serve over rice.
  • Note: use more or less cornstarch mixture depending on how thick you like your sauce. You can also add ginger if you like that flavor. Or orange peel or orange juice concentrate for more orange flavor. Enjoy!

This was delicious. My fiancée and I are new vegans (we just celebrated our 1 month veganversary!) and, for me, I was most worried about missing Panda Express Orange Chicken. I made this recipe for the family and it got a thumbs up from everyone, especially me. The sauce is unbelievably good. Sweet, just a little bit spicy, and the tofu works well with it. I didn't miss chicken at all. A couple of points: Let the sauce cool a bit before adding in the corn starch, otherwise it will clump up (and if this happens, get the whisk out and try and take care of it right away). We made a double serving and that was a good amount for me, my fiancée and my petite 8 year old stepdaughter. But we all wanted more (because it was delicious!). So, rather than 2 - 4, I'd say the recipe as written probably serves 1 -2. I think I could have done a better job with the tofu, but I'm still learning. Next time, I'm going to let it sit in the sauce longer. This is nitpicking, though. Thanks for the fantastic recipe: we all loved it and can't wait to try it again!

This is great! It is a little more sweet than spicy but quite good that way. I added a bag of frozen stir fry vegies to round it out. I think next time I make it I will cut the sugar in half to suit my own tastes. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!

The only thing i would do is add a bit more vinegar since i thought i was a little too sweet.

My rating system: (I don't like giving bad reviews, so if I don't like it, I'll just not review it.)

5 Stars OMG, this is one of the most amazing things I've ever eaten! I can't stop eating it, and I've eaten myself into a food coma.

4 Stars The recipe is wonderful as is. I can't think of a single improvement and I will most likely make it again.

3 Stars This needed a little *something*something*. I might make it again, but will add my own improvements if I do.

I love to eat! And I love to cook. I tend to take over the kitchen when I get in there. Even the dog knows the command get outta my kitchen! LOL. Cooking for other people and trying new recipes or foods is FUN! I have a small (but growing quickly!!) cookbook collection and one of my favorite things to do is to read recipes and plan meals. Rachael Ray, Horn of the Moon and Moosewood are favorites of mine.

We spend a lot of time outdoors camping, hiking and backpacking. Yup. I cook in the woods too! I've made deals with my hiking buddies... If they carry in my food, I'll cook for them. I recently published a backpacking cookbook.
