- 1 gallon apple cider, divided
- 1 1⁄2 cups water
- 6 whole cloves
- 5 whole allspice
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
directions
- In covered 6-quart saucepot or kettle, simmer 2 cups apple cider, water, cloves, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon sticks for 10 minutes.
- Add remaining apple cider and brown sugar; heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves.
- Keep warm, do not boil.
- Serve in cups or mugs.
- Garnish with cinnamon stick.

I served this with appetizers on Christmas eve. It was a warm and welcome treat for everyone. A great drink for those chilly winter nights. --- I prepared the first step of the recipe on the stovetop and for "Step 2", I put it all into a crock pot and let it continue steeping. Gave the house a spicy, holiday scent all afternoon. Another change I made: I used ground allspice, because I didn't have the spice whole. Don't think it made a difference, but next time I'll try it with the whole allspice. Thanks for posting.
