The NYC institution broke a Guinness World Record on “National Vanilla Milkshake Day.”

Serendipity 3 is most commonly known for its frozen hot chocolates and for that film starring Joan Cusack’s brother. Now however, it has earned an additional (very flashy) claim to fame: a Guinness World Record for “most expensive milkshake.”
On Wednesday, which just happened to be “National Vanilla Milkshake Day,” Serendipity chef Joe Calderone whipped up a milkshake worth $100 under the close supervision of a Guinness World Records judge. The “LUXE Milkshake” is made with over-the-top luxury ingredients and is served in a custom, Swarovski crystal-encrusted glass that was designed by “Crystal Ninja” Kellie DeFries.
The milkshake is now available to the public.
So what goes into a hundred-dollar milkshake?
Well, first you start with the dairy. Ice cream made with Tahitian vanilla gets mixed up with rich, high-fat Jersey milk from English cows. Added to that is buttery clotted cream from Devonshire, fresh vanilla beans from Madagascar and 23-karat edible gold for a bit of “bling.”
The blended shake is then topped with whipped cream and a sauce made from Venezuelan cocoa, Italian hazelnuts, donkey milk and sugar. The original Maraschino cherry, made in Luxardo, goes on top with an extra serving of edible gold for conspicuousness.
Of course, the dollar doesn’t go as far as it once did, so customers don’t get to take the bedazzled milkshake cup with them when they leave.
Interestingly enough, this is not the first Guinness World Record that Serendipity has broken—not by a long shot. The New York institution had already broken six records before it made its milkshake attempt. These records include the world’s most expensive dessert (the $1,000 “Golden Opulence Sundae), the largest wedding cake and the largest cup of hot chocolate or cocoa.
We can’t wait to see what happens on "National Chocolate Milkshake Day."
