Coming from an Italian family and knowing good food, as a latch-key kid with a mother who thought planning a meal meant picking takeout menus, I learned how to cook from my aunts as a matter of survival. I honed my skills working at an assortment of restaurants through high school and college; finally working as a chef in a well regarded Italian restaurant in Providences' North End when the chef quit in a fit of pique.Â
